As early as 1838, a waterwheel was erected on the Mungbach and a sawmill was operated. In the years that followed, this often changed hands. This later developed into a family history that has now lasted over 100 years:

1912: Master carpenter Philipp Schuwey von Jaun acquires the sawmill.

1918: Philipp's son, Heinrich, now becomes the owner of the sawmill on the Mungbach.

1927: Heinrich and his family move to America. His brother Siegfried buys the sawmill.

1955: Siegfried's eldest son Hermann takes over the business. With the construction of the hotel-restaurant Le Vieux Chalet in Crésuz, significant work in the Bernese Oberland and on Lake Geneva, the company H. Schuwey & Söhne develops into a flourishing and sought-after family business.

1972: Construction of a new sawmill, carpentry and joinery on the main road towards Jaun and foundation of the family company. After Hermann's death in 1981, his sons Beat, Henri, Jean-Claude and Siegfried continue to run the family business.

2009: Xaver Schuwey, carpenter, son of Beat, and Laurent Schuwey, civil engineer, son of Jean-Claude, take over the management of the company, which has developed from a small business to a considerable employer in the Jaun valley with around 40 employees.
