Cantorama

The history of the old church is probably almost a thousand years old. The building was first mentioned as a small chapel in episcopal writings in 1228.
In the 13th century, the room was already extended in an easterly direction.
In the 16th century, from 1555-1560, the church gained in importance with the construction of the church tower and the murals in the small choir vault. With the constant increase in the village population, the last significant expansion of the church to its current dimensions took place between 1808 and 1811. 100 years later, the old church was abandoned and replaced by a new one in a sunny location in the centre of the village.
After a relatively long phase of planning and restoration, the old church found a new purpose. The Cantorama was opened in 1992 as a centre for choral singing in Freiburg. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, it is a popular meeting place for choirs and musicians. Every year, 10-12 concerts of various styles are organised in the Cantorama. Also worth mentioning are the three ceiling paintings by Gottfried Locher (1735-1795) which originally came from the church in Villarepos.
In 1786, the Fribourg organ builder Johann Dreher created the organ for this church. As individual parts had been well preserved, the Goll company from Lucerne was able to guarantee a professional restoration of the instrument. The historic organ was rededicated in the Cantorama in October 2011.
