The new church of Jaun

33
The new church was planned by architect Leo Hertling. Construction began in 1908 and the consecration took place in 1910. It was built in place of the old church (now Cantorama) because it was no longer adequate for the space available at the time and the lack of infrastructure. The original interior decoration corresponded to the typical architectural style of the turn of the century. The two side altars are still preserved today. The stained glass windows are by Kirsch and Flechtner, Freiburg.
- renovation in 1963/64: The Roditzer winged altar from 1514 (then in the old church) was rebuilt in the choir. Also the tabernacle and baptismal font. Both works of art by Antoine Claraz, Fribourg.
- renovation 1990/91 : New high altar and ambo by Fribourg artist Fredy Peissard. The main altar symbolises the Holy Trinity and the ambo refers to the stoning of St. Stephen, the patron saint of this church.
Worth mentioning: the Great Madonna of Jaun (full wooden figure from around 1200) Recently restored and repositioned next to the current main altar.
